Ecommerce website design FAQs
How does an online shop work?
An online shop is a website where customers browse your products, add them to a basket and pay you online, at any time and from anywhere in the UK. Unlike selling only through social media, the shop takes payment on its own: the customer chooses, pays and you receive the order ready to dispatch.
Yours includes a catalogue, basket, built-in payments, delivery options and a dashboard to manage it all. We build the whole thing and hand it over working.
Does a website cost more if I include e-commerce?
Yes, a little: a business website starts at £12.99 a month + VAT, and the Ecommerce plan costs £34.99 a month + VAT with the complete shop included: hosting, SSL certificate, unlimited email accounts, basket and your first 30 products uploaded by us.
You also get 40 GB of storage and a free .co.uk domain, billed monthly through PayPal with no contract. And you only pay once you've seen the finished shop and you're happy with it.
How to take payments online for small business
We integrate Stripe, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay at no extra cost, so customers can pay by card or digital wallet and the money goes straight to your account.
If you don't have accounts with these platforms yet, we'll help you open them and test everything with trial transactions before going live. Every payment is recorded alongside its order in the dashboard, so reconciling your takings is easy.
What do you need from us to get started?
Your logo and a product list with names, prices and photos. Our team then uploads your first 30 products, with descriptions written and categories organised so the catalogue is clear at a glance.
After that you can keep adding products yourself from the dashboard, or ask us for changes as part of the monthly maintenance included.
How is the delivery fee calculated?
By delivery zone: we set up zones with their own rates, for example mainland UK, the Highlands and Islands, and Northern Ireland, plus click and collect if you have premises. Customers see the cost before they pay, with no surprises at checkout.
You choose which courier to use: the shop gives you every order with the address and contact details ready to book the delivery, without chasing details by message.
Can I make my own updates to my site?
Yes. The shop includes a dashboard for adding products, changing prices, managing stock and reviewing orders, designed for business owners rather than developers. We give you a step-by-step guide so you can find your way around with confidence.
And if you'd rather just focus on selling, the monthly maintenance included covers those changes: email us and we'll make them for you.
How long does an ecommerce website take to build?
Your shop is live in 10 working days from when we receive all your material.
As soon as it's finished we send you a real link so you can see it working, with your products uploaded and test payments, before you decide to pay.
Will I own my ecommerce website?
Yes. Your domain, your products and your customer data are yours, and there's no contract: if you ever leave, we give you a full copy of your shop, database and email. Before launch, if you're not happy with the finished shop, you pay nothing.
Before it gets to that point, we adjust the design and content based on your feedback until the shop feels like yours.
